All I want is for her to have a chance

The Problem…

Too many kids are trapped in poor performing schools (often in low-income neighborhoods), limiting their access to quality education.

ZIP Codes should not determine the quality of kids’ education! Largely unaware of school performance data, too many parents lack the information and resources to consider alternatives to poor performing schools. The perfect storm…poor children in under-performing schools with no way out, systematically sustaining the cycle of poverty.

A Solution…

A choice and freedom are enshrined in virtually all aspects of American society. Why not in education, especially for low-income families, for whom education offers the greatest hope for economic advancement? Every child should have access to quality education. All parents should be empowered to choose the school that is best for their children.

Parents Challenge Founding Principles

At Parents Challenge, we believe:

  • All children have the right to be educated
  • Parents know what is best for their children
  • Schools must be accountable to the children and their parents (no period)
  • Empowering parents with “choice” means a better education for all
  • Parents must be engaged in the education of their children

Most importantly, we are committed to making these beliefs real and available to families in Colorado Springs, Colorado and, ultimately, across the country.

Having helped 1600 low-income students over the past ten years, Parents Challenge is committed to expanding those opportunities for many more students and parents in the Pikes Peak region, but we need YOU!! Please consider getting involved!

The Parents Challenge Program

Parents Challenge is dedicated to helping children escape failing schools by helping their parents exercise CHOICE.  We help parents learn about what education options are available and how to pursue them.
Our program is built upon four key activities:

Parental Empowerment...
facilitates multi-level parental engagement in the educational process by training parents how to be better education consumers, tracking and recording children’s progress, selecting supplemental support and materials, interacting with teachers, administrators and BOEs, and understanding the broader implications, challenges and benefits of educational reform.

Scholarships and Grants...
provide partial private school tuition funding (scholarships) for low-income families, as well as grant funds for transportation, computers, and tutoring for PC participants opting for public schools or charters, and curricular materials for homeschoolers.

Student Services...
assist with evaluation, monitoring, and improvement of academic and cognitive skills, as well as developing coping and life skills.  Students and parents will be expected to record all academic grades, standardized scores and all extra-curricula activities in a student journal.

Community Engagement...
facilitates outreach and collaboration with -other service-providing organizations throughout the community, as well as with progressive school boards and other key constituencies, dedicated to broader educational improvement.
