Parents Challenge Mission
Parents Challenge is dedicated to improved academic achievement of all kids, but especially those in low socio-economic circumstances who are performing at alarmingly and unacceptably poor levels. Since parents are the most important educators of, and decision makers for, their children, Parents Challenge informs, motivates, activates and empowers them to become more engaged in, and have more control over, their children’s’ education. We do this with the goal and expectation that those children we support will make meaningful academic progress.
To support its goal and expectation of student academic improvement, the board also adopted eight (8) core values for all Parents Challenge scholarship recipients. Those students will be expected to adhere to those values while in their school environment.
The core values are:
- Honesty
- Responsibility
- Self-Discipline
- Courage
- Self-Control
- Integrity
- Compassion
- Respect
The board also approved eight (8) outcome measures that will be used to evaluate a student’s academic progress. They are:
- Grades
- Test Scores
- Progress Reports
- Attendance Records
- Referrals regarding discipline
- Volunteering/Leadership/Extra Curricular Activities
- Teacher comments regarding effort/motivation
- Demonstration of adherence/knowledge of the eight core values
